Sangeet Mela 2016

An eight-day music festival titled Sangeet Mela began on Saturday at the open ground of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Sammilita Sangeet Shilpi Society has organised the fiesta with an aim of promoting contemporary music. The ground was decorated with a number of stalls of record labels selling albums, as well as stalls selling traditional cookies and other food items to the visitors. On Saturday, information minister Hasanul Haque Inu inaugurated the event, handing over honorary crests to four eminent singers-composers. Abdul Jabbar, Sadi Muhammad, Sujeya Shyam and Kuti Mansur received the crests. The organisers have plans to honour a total of 25 musicians throughout the event. Following the inauguration, individual singers and bands entertained the audience with their performances. Among them were Tutun Baul, Banaspati Baul, Iva, and FA Sumon, while among the bands were Bangladesh, Black and Gachh. Tuntun Baul presented Fakir Lalon Shah’s song Janga Padma Nirbachan, while Banaspati Baul presented Age Ki Koste Din. FA Sumon presented some of his original numbers including Janre Tui, Ghumparani and Jadurey. Meanwhile, Black presented its popular numbers Amar Prithibi, Ekhono and Tumi Ki Sara Debe. Gachh presented Prem Asbei and Sundori Tui Geli Koi. The festival will end on April 30.
